Collaborative Problem Solving
BioLargo, a science and engineering company that invents and commercializes platform technologies to solve some of the most challenging environmental problems, has partnered with Garratt-Callahan (G-C). This joint project creates and develops a wastewater treatment product design to salvage usable water from commercial facilities wastewater streams. BioLargo already partnered with G-C and specifically wanted to leverage the existing relationship. G-C will receive 25-35 test units for solid separation, waste, and waste treatment in the project’s first year.
Water treatment expert and Technical Project Manager, Kelle Zeiher Ph.D. , is hopeful about this ongoing collaboration. She said:
Garratt-Callahan was delighted to partner with BioLargo on a liquid discharge and waste minimization project. The heart of the process — developed and patented by Garratt-Callahan scientists — needed the expert equipment and manufacturing capabilities that BioLargo adds to bring it to fruition. The resulting collaborative breakthrough, with its modular design, allows small- and medium-volume manufacturers to approach the industrial gold standard of “zero liquid discharge” without the million dollar capital investments often required by traditional technologies.
It is hard to overstate the potential impact of being able to reuse every drop of liquid water, especially in drought-ridden areas. Garratt-Callahan has great hopes for this project and its positive impact on individual manufacturers and the environment.
