pH

The logarithm of the reciprocal of the hydrogen ion concentration. pH is a measure of the acidity or alkalinity of a water solution, with 7.0 as the neutral point. This is an exponential function, so that a pH of 9.0 represents ten times as much alkalinity as a pH of 8.0. This is also a measure of the ion concentration, not molecular concentrations.
